The Black Student Caucus of ODU kicked off this weekend with a very fun campus event. The "Welcome to the Block" Block Party was held on Friday evening on the steps of Kaufman Mall in front of Webb Center. The event featured live performances by participating students and organizations which included singing, dancing, poetry, and stepping. They also featured representatives of the Black student organizations on campus who came up and shared some information about their organizations. There were representatives from the Black Student Events Board, the Black Student Alliance, National Society of Black Engineers, the National PanHellenic Council, NAACP, and the Black Student Caucus. In between performances the hosts held raffle ticket drawings and encouraged the crowd to donate money towards diabetes. 103 Jamz radio station's DJ Jack of Spade provided the music for the event which last from 6pm until about 9pm. Although there wasn't a very big crowd in the beginning, the event had a very successful turnout and was very enjoyable for those who attended.
